With art - you are a lifelong student and many times, not just for technique and skill. Life is the story you tell through your art, it’s a pain you’ve endured, the joys you felt and the dreams you still aspire to.

Laura is an artist based in Longmont, Colorado, surrounded by the stunning scenery that continually inspires her. Her art showcases her love of the natural world and the unseen realm, which she brings to life with her use of oil paints and mixed media techniques.

Her primary focus is on animal subjects, but she is constantly exploring new themes and styles. Laura's goal is to create art that conveys form, depth, and weight and provides a close encounter with the subject.

In addition to her passion for art, Laura is a dedicated mother to three children and fur-mom to a dog and two cats, balancing her family life with her creative pursuits.

Artist Statment

As an artist, my work is a tribute to the untamed spirit of the American West, where nature and its inhabitants once thrived in a harmonious balance. The western frontier, with its vast expanses and diverse wildlife, represents a time when humans and nature coexisted in a way that has been eroded in our modern world.

Through my paintings, I aim to celebrate the animals of the West, while drawing attention to their present-day plight as we continue to encroach on their habitats.

In each brushstroke, I strive to capture not only the physical essence of these animals but also the raw emotion they evoke. My subjects, the animals of the West, symbolize a wildness and freedom that is increasingly scarce in today’s society. As we have tamed the wilderness and the creatures that inhabit it, we have inadvertently tamed ourselves. The relentless march of progress and our dependence on technology has left us disconnected from the natural world and longing for a simpler existence.

My work serves as a reminder of what we have lost in our pursuit of progress and the importance of preserving what remains of the untamed spirit within us all. I hope that through my art, viewers can reconnect with their own wildness and find solace in the beauty of nature.

By focusing on the animals that once roamed the landscapes of the American West, I hope to evoke a sense of nostalgia, while simultaneously shining a light on the urgent need for the conservation and protection of these magnificent creatures. Each piece is a tribute to the animal it represents, as well as a call to action for us to recognize and respect the wildness that remains.

In a world increasingly consumed by technology and urbanization, my paintings offer a window into a time and place where the natural world reigned supreme. Through my art, I invite viewers to journey with me into the wilderness, reconnect with the beauty of the wild animals that call it home, and rediscover the untamed spirit that lies within each of us.
